This year’s special centenary edition of the Copa America is the biggest ever, with 16 teams taking part. They include some of the most talented attacking players in world football, but who will take the Golden Boot? Here we’re previewing the top scorer race at this year’s Copa, and we’ve got the latest betting odds and a few predictions to help you cash in.
The best way to get the best betting odds on our tips or your own predictions is through our live odds comparison. It trawls the internet for prices on everything from match betting to the outright winner of the tournament, and lets you know where to find the best available value.
This market was massively shaken up by the final of the Spanish Cup. Luis Suarez went off injured there, and he’s now a doubt for the group stage here. He had been in amazing form for Barcelona, but his injury now hinders his chances. It would take a herculean effort for him to win the Golden Boot after missing the group stage, but he’s still priced as short as 10/1 with Bet365.
It’s a huge blow to Uruguay, who would have been a good outside bet to come out on top in the USA. The frontrunners for the trophy are Argentina, who are priced at betting odds of 9/4 with Betfair in the outright winner market. Coral have Brazil as 9/2 second favourites, while holders Chile are at 8s.
The favourites are so heavily backed due to their mouth-watering forward line. The current favourites for the Golden Boot are Argentines. Sky Bet price Lionel Messi as the 5/1 favourite, with Sergio Aguero at 7/1 and Gonzalo Higuain at 10/1. That’s good for their tournament chances, but the forwards could end up sharing the goals between them.
It’s hard to see all three at their best here, as Argentina have never been able to blend together their incredible attacking talent. Messi has cooled slightly on the scoring front for Barcelona, and he could be in more of a playmaker role here. While they’re each fantastic players, we don’t see them being value picks.
We’ve gone a lot bigger with our predictions, and we’ve found two players who are at huge prices. While they are very alternative picks, they’ve got what it takes to have a good tournament. First up is Brazilian midfielder Willian. He’s the only man to have a good season with Chelsea, and that’s forced him in to the national team.
He’s started every one of their World Cup qualifiers so far, scoring twice. His record of five goals in eight Champions League matches this term is impressive, especially in a struggling side. He’s a huge 50/1 with Sky Bet, which looks far too long.
Believe it or not, James Rodriguez is an even bigger price. The Colombian may have had a mixed spell with Real Madrid, but he’s shown his talents in tournament football before. The top scorer from the last World Cup is priced at massive betting odds of 66/1 with Sky Bet here, which seems far too high to ignore.
Our live odds comparison helped us find huge prices for our two predictions, and it could do the same for you. It’s an essential tool for finding the best value betting odds across all of the key markets. From Premier League outright winner betting through to each Copa America game, it has you covered.
