EuroLeague Outright Betting
At the time of writing, Olympiacos won twenty of their first twenty-seven matches played during the EuroLeague regular season. Twelve months ago, they fared well enough to reach the Final Four before losing to Real Madrid 87-76, although they look better equipped to win this time around.
Georgios Bartzokas is the man tasked with leading the Greek side to glory, with the club having previously won three EuroLeague titles. They have been especially strong at home where just two defeats have been suffered and the bookies have installed them as the market leaders based on displays so far.
However, Panathinaikos are their arch-rivals and also the team who are reigning champions. Although Pana haven’t been imperious so far this season, a play-off spot looks virtually certain already and the Greek outfit have the track record to then prosper well based on what happened last term where they came out on top.
The champions finished second in the regular standings last time out when achieving twenty-three wins from their thirty-four games played, with a narrow quarter final victory then coming against Maccabi Tel Aviv before a comfortable win over Fenerbahce. It was then a relatively comfortable success against Real Madrid when it came to the final.
There’s a big Turkish threat in the form of Fenerbahce who have been riding high in the standings during the early part of the season. Eighteen wins from twenty-seven encounters is a pretty strong start and provides a solid platform for future success, with coach Cenk Renda looking to double the number of EuroLeague titles that the team have.
Monaco are not without a chance and they will hope that this is the season where the French side finally manage to get their hands on a maiden EuroLeague victory. There has been a EuroCup success although Oleksiy Yefimov certainly has a group of players that can compete with any other team and they are regarded as the rising stars.
It's not been an ideal start to the season for Real Madrid who are currently operating at a win rate that is just over 50%, although perhaps the Spanish side can start to play their way into contention. We’re talking about a team who have landed eleven EuroLeague successes, with Chus Mateo the man at the helm and there’s definitely potential to win.
To Make the Play-Offs /Play-In
There are eighteen times competing in the EuroLeague although only ten will continue to participate beyond the regular season. The top six sides will go automatically through to the play-offs, while there will be a further four clubs who make the play-in. Teams who finish seventh and eighth will compete for a play-off spot, while the loser will play the winner of the ninth versus tenth match for the final berth.
Olympiacos are regarded as enormous favourites to make the play-offs, although there’s a chance to get bigger odds about some of the teams who could be scrapping to go deep in the competition. We’re likely to see Panathinaikos taking their place in the top six and, at this stage, it would be a surprise to see Fenerbahce missing out.
Monaco are also regarded as nailed-on to make the play-offs, with things getting interesting after that. Although Bayern Munich are regarded as having next to no chance of landing an outright victory, the German side sit fifth in the table at the time of writing and their seventeen wins from twenty-eight games demonstrates that they are a high calibre side this term.
Real Madrid and Partizan are next in the betting and could be in a tussle to make it to the final shake-up, with lots of other teams potentially battling it out until the final matches. Crvena Zvezda are currently trading at odds-on and the Serbian side might well come through at the expense of some of the more household names.
To Make Final Four
There’s also a chance to bet on which teams will end up making the Final Four and it’s an interesting betting market. Although the bookies have four sides trading at odds-on, it’s not a guarantee that they’ll be taking their place in the semi-finals considering that the EuroLeague often throws up some random results.
By rights, Olympiacos will be taking their place in the last four of the competition and they will potentially be joined by Greek rivals Panathinaikos. Then things get a little more interesting, with Fenerbahce a Turkish side with lots to offer and the other side who can get in the mix is Monaco although the table suggests there could be value elsewhere.
Real Madrid have endured a sluggish start to the EuroLeague season which saw them win just 50% of their twenty-eight games played, although we might expect the Spanish side to get back in the mix and they have a strong pedigree in the competition. The basketball betting sites certainly feel that they’re more likely than several of the other sides.
Bayern Munich are trading at a similar price to make the Final Four and they made a respectable start in the league phase of the competition. The German side will hope that coach Gordon Herbert can steer them to a first ever EuroLeague success and there have been some impressive victories so far.
Other teams capable of breaking into the Final Four include Partizan, Milano and Barcelona, with these teams potentially having to do this by reaching the Play-In stage and then looking to battle it out to reach the Play-offs.
Regular Season League Winner
It would be a big surprise if Olympiacos don’t end up winning the Regular Season considering that they’re in such a position of strength. The Greek team are trading as strong favourites and they top the section having played a game less than their rivals, with the team only suffering seven defeats all season. They will continue to be difficult to beat.
Fenerbahce might be the only other team who can usurp their rivals, although an inferior points difference means that they could have to settle for second or third place in the standings instead.
