The 2019 British Superbike Championship season is the 30th annual British Superbike campaign. Over 20 riders are battling it out for Shane Byrne’s crown, after the London-born star roared to his fifth British Superbike Championship title last year. Things are extremely tight at the top at present, with Luke Mossey leading the way on 147 points.
The series is typically contested over 12 rounds from April to October each year. Over the course of the season, the riders will race wheel-to-wheel at famous old venues such as Donington Park, Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Knockhill, Snetterton, Silverstone and many others.
With our live odds comparison, best tips, top odds and predictions, we’ll be taking a look at the 2019 British Superbike Championship. Which riders will make the top six? Who will come out on top come October?
2019 British Superbike Championship Winner: Can Anyone Stop The Champ?
After five rounds, only seven points separate the top two in the standings thus far. Mossey finds himself at the top, having won both races at Brands Hatch Indy back in April. The 24-year-old, who rides for JG Speedfit Kawasaki, will be looking to fend off the likes of Leon Haslam, Josh Brookes and reigning British champ, Byrne as the rounds tick by.
At the time of writing, Haslam and Bryne are the joint favourites for the title, with Bet365 offering decent odds of 11/8. Despite leading the championship on 147 points, looking at our live odds comparison, Bet365 have Mossey available at the generous price of 7/1 for the Cambridge-born star to lift his first trophy in his third year at the top level of British Superbike racing.
In terms of who we think is worth having a punt on as an outsider, Brookes, who you can get at betting odds of 14/1 with Bet365, stands out above the rest. The 34-year-old, who was born in Sydney, knows what it takes to be champion, having won the championship back in 2015.
However, despite finding himself seven points off the lead as we gear up for the Brands Hatch GP, we’re backing Byrne to retain his crown this year. Even at 11/8, we feel it’s worth backing him. He’s an experienced campaigner, having been around the block and won five titles during his illustrious career, and it’s never a good idea to rule him out.
2019 British Superbike Championship Showdown: Ellison To Make Late Dash?
With the last three rounds of the championship being the ‘Showdown’, the battle for a place in the top six is always a fascinating affair. The top six riders after nine rounds compete over three rounds and seven races for the title. Now we’ve settled on who we believe will win the title outright, let’s take a look at who can make a charge for a Showdown spot!
With the likes of Mossey, Haslam, Brookes and Byrne odds-on to finish in the top six, there’s no point looking at those lot. Instead, there’s plenty of value elsewhere in this market. One of the standout prices that’s caught our eye is Betfair’s odds of 6/5 for James Ellison to break in.
Some may see that as a risk, though, as the 36-year-old has completed just three of the eight races so far. Still, when he has gone the distance, Ellison has finished fifth, sixth and sixth respectively. With several rounds left, although he has plenty of work to do, don’t rule out the Yamaha YZF-R1 rider.
For those of you looking for even more value, Dan Linfoot at 15/2 (BetVictor) is another one worth keeping an eye on. After a fifth-place finish in Race 1 last time out at Snetterton, the Honda man will be hoping to charge towards the top six. Before Round 6 at Brands Hatch, Linfoot finds himself 33 points off Peter Hickman, who currently occupies sixth place.
