The Dutch Eredivisie is one of the best leagues in world football and whilst it may not be able to match the Premier League or La Liga when it comes to money or glamour players, it is home to many of the stars of tomorrow. The seemingly never-ending conveyor belt of talented Dutch footballers offers rich pickings for wealthier English sides but it also makes the Eredivisie a fascinating and exciting league. We take a look at the teams vying for the title this term and offer up our betting tips, predictions and live odds comparison for the outright winner market so read on if you want to know who’ll be crowned Eredivisie champions this season.
As is often the way, Dutch football is dominated at the moment by the three biggest clubs, with Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven leading the way. Those three sides have an astonishing 69 Dutch titles between them, with Ajax having won more than half of those. It is the side from Amsterdam who lead the way in the current outright winner betting too, with Frank de Boer’s men, who finished second in the Eredivisie last season, the odds-on favourites for title number 34.
Ajax can be backed at odds of just 5/6 with William Hill after accumulating 32 points from their opening 13 games to lead Feyenoord by three points. Ajax’s goal difference is an impressive +29, indicating the ease with which they have won a number of games. Interestingly, however, they were beaten at home by PSV and only managed a draw at Feyenoord, results which could cost them dear in the final reckoning.
Next in the outright winner odds come PSV, priced at odds of 7/4 with Ladbrokes. PSV, who beat Man United in the Champions League earlier this season, have beaten both of their main Eredivisie rivals already and clearly have what it takes in the big games. However, they have slipped up by drawing a number of games against sides they would have expected to beat and that is why they are four points adrift of Ajax in third.
Last season’s champions are capable of going on a great run though and having dominated Eredivisie last term they won’t give up. Last season they ended the campaign some 17 points clear of Ajax, dropping just three points at home (in a 3-1 loss to Ajax). They have some very classy players and are a well-drilled team and they certainly can’t be written off.
One side we predict may struggle to keep pace with the two market leaders is second placed Feyenoord. Priced at betting odds of 6/1 with Ladbrokes, the third favourites don’t quite have the resources of the other two clubs. The Rotterdam side, managed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst, finished fourth last season and whilst they should improve on that this term we don’t see them having what it takes to go all the way.
Beyond those three it would take great loyalty to opt for an alternative option in the outright betting. Vitesse are fourth favourites but at odds of 125/1 we’re happy to write them off!
So, then, which of the top two sides in the Eredivisie outright betting do we predict will taste glory this season? Ajax are worthy favourites but we just feel they may come unstuck later in the campaign and at significantly longer odds we feel PSV are the best option and as such they are our betting tip here. If they were to drop into the Europa League that would potentially hinder their title charge so it could be worth waiting to see what happens there but for now they remain our top pick.
