As things currently stand, it would be a big surprise if the Labour Party didn’t manage to land the biggest number of seats in the 2024 General Election, with the country set to go to the polls in a couple of years. However, a lot can change in UK politics and Keir Starmer will hope that Labour can continue to have mass appeal.
It’s to Labour’s advantage to be in opposition during the cost of living crisis. Boris Johnson continued to break the rules to the point where his position became untenable. Liz Truss made a dog’s dinner of the Tory leadership and few of the electorate are going to empathise with the wealthy Rishi Sunak who is now PM.
However, the British general public can be a fickle lot and the Conservative Party will hope to win voters back ahead of the 2014 General Election. There is plenty of time for them to show green shoots of recovery and it would still require Labour to get an enormous amount of swing in order to be the party in power.
Perhaps we’ll see a close run thing and a potential hung parliament, with lots of political betting odds already available. You can bet on whether there will be a Labour majority or minority, while there is also the opportunity to bet on the Next UK Prime Minister betting market.
