2022 German Masters Preview
Judd Trump won the 2021 German Masters a year ago, although the competition was actually played in Milton Keynes due to COVID-19 restrictions. This year’s tournament will be back at the Tempodrom in Berlin, with Trump the snooker betting favourite to win the competition and it appears he stands a really strong chance of victory in Germany.
Trump has been playing well recently and claimed wins over Mark Allen and Kyren Wilson in the recent Masters tournament before that close encounter against Hawkins. However, there was nothing wrong with the 32-year-old’s game in that match and he will fancy his chances considering that the number one seed has an easy-looking route through to the latter stages.
Nevertheless, the outright snooker betting market suggests that there are lots of lively contenders to win and it’s worth noting that Trump has only won one competition this season. That was the Champion of Champions back in November, with the Ace in the Pack having stumbled at the quarter final phase of the Northern Ireland Open and the English Open.
Can Robertson Land Another Masters Snooker Title?
We’re surprised to see Neil Robertson trading at such big snooker odds to win the 2022 German Masters considering that the Thunder from Down Under looks to be in excellent form coming into the action in Berlin. The Australian is overcame Anthony McGill, Ronnie O’Sullivan and Mark Williams en route to the Masters final before a comfortable victory against Barry Hawkins.
That triumph will certainly give Robertson confidence ahead of this tournament, with the Aussie potentially on a collision course to meet Kyren Wilson at the last eight stage and the winner of that clash could end up meeting Trump for a place in the final. However, there’s plenty to recommend an each-way bet on Robertson.
Selby, Allen and Williams Could Be Good Snooker Bets
Mark Selby has arguably the easier half of the draw and the second seed will be looking to play himself into some good form ahead of the impending 2022 Snooker World Championship, with the Leicester player having been trounced by Barry Hawkins at the quarter final stage of the Masters and he could be vulnerable in Germany.
Selby did win the 2016 German Masters but has not really made an impact since then, with Mark Williams looking like a more interesting contender. Despite a limited training schedule, the Welshman still produced some magic in the 2022 Masters to run eventual champion Neil Robertson close and we have to consider him a major player here.
Mark Allen was close to beating Judd Trump in the first round of the Masters and perhaps the Northern Irishman can have a decent run at this competition, with the Pistol having already won the Northern Ireland Open this year and we could see him navigate his way through the draw of this one.
Which Players Can Come Through the Draw?
The first quarter of the draw looks to be highly competitive, with Judd Trump and Mark Williams the top-seeded players. The former is the snooker betting favourite to win the German Masters, although there are some interesting competitors in this section and that includes Anthony McGill and Stephen Maguire.
As far as the second quarter is concerned, the snooker betting odds are certainly interested. Neil Robertson and Kyren Wilson are among the leading contenders and you can compare snooker odds for the pair’s matches, with this potentially being one of the matches of the tournament, although Luca Brecel has shown flashes of form this season.
The third quarter features Shaun Murphy and Mark Allen although there could be some unseeded players finding their way in the latter stage of the tournament. Meanwhile, we might see Yang Bingtao and Mark Selby clash in the second round of the German Masters and that will be a great match to enjoy In-Play snooker betting.
