The Eurovision Song Contest 2020 will take place at the Rotterdam Ahoy Arena in the Netherlands on Saturday 16 May, while there will be semi-finals taking place in the days leading up to the grand event.
There are no less than forty-one countries participating in the contest, with the majority of the participants having to compete in the semi-finals before we get to the actual final itself.
Who are the Leading Eurovision Contenders?
We know that France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and United Kingdom will be participating and it’s the Italians who are trading as slight favourites at this moment in time.
It is clear that “Fai rumore” will be the song for the Italians when it comes to the Rotterdam event, while Diodato has been chosen as the artist and the Italian singer-songwriter might have struck gold with his song choice and performance.
Italy are trading at 15/2 with Paddy Power and betfair, although the Winner betting market is completely wide open and there are many others who are trading at single figure odds.
Russia are trading at odds of 8/1 to claim the spoils although it should be noted that they haven’t won this competition since 2008 and perhaps there are better alternatives.
Sweden have been the most successful nation in the past eight years, with the Scandinavians winning on two occasions and they are the third favourites to win the award.
A country such as Sweden is likely to garner plenty of points considering that they are a likeable nation who is everyone’s ally, with the artist and song yet to be confirmed.
Perhaps there will be history made this year with Australia landing a victory and the country from Down Under has hired Montaigne to produce the goods, with the female singer performing the act “Don’t Break Me”.
You have to go back a couple of decades to find the last time that a country managed to win back-to-back Eurovision Song Contests, with the Netherlands bidding to become the first participant to make this achievement since 1994.
Back in the 1990’s, Ireland triumphed in 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1996, although there have been various winners ever since, with the Dutch available at 11/1 and they have hired Jeangu Macrooy to try and deliver the goods.
There is an argument that a winning nation doesn’t necessarily want to go through the hassle of having to host the competition for a second consecutive time, although the artist they have chosen is someone adept at modern soul and perhaps that will prove popular.
Other Eurovision Song Contest Betting Markets
In addition to trying to back the winner of Eurovision 2020, there is also the opportunity to bet on other betting markets and that includes Top 10 Finish. We would recommend that you have a good listen to all the entries for this current year and then attempt to work out which ones stand the best chance.
It’s even worth having a listen to songs that have historically done well such as the Dutch entry from last year which amassed nearly 500 points on the way to victory last time out.
In addition to Top 10 Finish, you can also bet on Top 5 Finish although some punters instead prefer to bet each way on the winner of Eurovision 2020 and you will often find the bookies offering enhanced places for this betting extravaganza.
