What is The Hundred?
The Hundred is an exciting new cricket tournament taking place in the United Kingdom where eight teams will compete in the inaugural 2020 competition and it’s scheduled to run in the months of July and August when we’re in the peak of the cricket season.
As the name might suggest, 100-ball cricket is the format and that’s slightly less than Twenty20 which has twenty overs of six balls for each side. The eight teams are the Manchester Originals, Northern Superchargers, Birmingham Phoenix, Trent Rockets, Welsh Fire, London Spirit, Oval Invincibles and Southern Brave.
There are men’s teams and women’s teams who come from the same franchise and there will be betting markets available for both tournaments, with the leading bookmakers also likely to create plenty of match betting opportunities for the various games that occur.
Each team will originally play four home matches and four away matches which means a total of 32 games in the league that precedes the play-offs. Each team is going to be made up of 15 players and that includes three overseas players, with each side getting one player who has an England central contract including Ben Stokes featuring for the Northern Superchargers.
How to Get the Best Odds on The Hundred
The bookmakers started off by pricing up the outright market for the men’s Hundred competition in 2020, although it will be interesting to see the odds when it comes to the matches as we get closer to the overall schedule.
You will naturally be able to bet on the Match Winner and customers should also expect a broad range of match markets which are similar to Twenty20 clashes and that will include Top Batsman and Top Bowler for each side, while you can also bet on Total Runs scored by each team which is usually a two-way market which is Over / Under a certain amount.
As the tournament gets closer, keep a keen eye out for the additional markets that have been included by the online bookmakers. It pays to have a betting account with more than one bookmaker so you can compare the prices and it’s possible that the early prices won’t be competitive compared to the odds that you get closer to the event.
Bet on the The Hundred Winner
Southern Brave are the uncertain favourites with the majority of online bookmakers to win The Hundred, with Jofra Archer on board for a team who have recruited David Warner, Andre Russell and Shadab Khan as the overseas players.
However, many will prefer the chances of Northern Superchargers considering that Ben Stokes is virtually certain to shine at this format based on his exploits when it comes to 50-over cricket, while Aaron Finch is also one of the best batsman in world cricket for the shorter format.
Oval Invincibles and Trent Rockets are trading at a similar price and it’s fair to say that the bookies are adopting a suck-it-and-see approach when it comes to this competition, with Birmingham Phoenix and Welsh Fire trading at 8/1 and you then have Manchester Originals and London Spirit available at a slightly bigger price.
